On September 4, 2017, Governor Rick Scott issued Executive Order 17-235 declaring a state of emergency in all 67 counties within the state of Florida in response to Hurricane Irma. Based on this proclamation, the Florida Board of Veterinary Medicine has a 30 Day Temporary Veterinarian License available to out-of-state veterinarians who wish to come to Florida to provide relief veterinary services but do not hold a current Florida Veterinary License.
The application form for the 30 Day Temporary Veterinarian License is available here.
Veterinary Establishments that suffered damage from the storm and need to relocate to new premises should apply for a new establishment license (premise permit) for the new location online.
The processing of these applications will be a priority and completed as quickly as possible.
Florida licensed veterinarians interested in offering volunteer services should contact the Florida Department of Agriculture, Florida Veterinary Corps or Florida SART(Florida State Agricultural Response Team).
CANCELLED: Board of Veterinary Medicine Meeting
Due to the potential threat from Hurricane Irma the Florida Board of Veterinary Medicine’s meeting scheduled for Friday, September 8, 2017 in Stuart, Florida has been cancelled. Disciplinary hearings and probation appearances will be continued to the December 1, 2017 meeting. There will be a conference call in the upcoming weeks to handle applications and any other general business requiring immediate attention.
Streamlined Applications Released
In an effort to assist applicants through the licensure process and to reduce the number of deficient applications, the Department of Business and Professional Regulation and the Board of Veterinary Medicine conducted a complete review and revision of all applications. The updated applications were launched July 10, 2012.
Renewal notices will be mailed in February and the deadline to renew is May 31, 2012. This year the Board authorized a partial fee waiver of $50 for license renewal for active and inactive veterinarians.
