10-Year Endorsement

House Bill 869, which passed during the 2023 legislative session, was approved by Governor Ron DeSantis on June 9, 2023. This bill creates a provision in chapter 469, F.S. for 10-Year Endorsement for asbestos contractors and consultants. Applicants with an out-of-state license, as an Asbestos Contractor or Consultant, held for 10 years or more, may apply for the same license in Florida without being required to take the Florida Exam. Please see our FAQs for more information.

Online Training

Approved asbestos continuing education and refresher courses may be offered via live, interactive online meeting applications such as Zoom, GoToMeeting, GoToWebinar, Skype or similar platforms. The courses must be led by the approved instructor with the same content as provided in the course application. This does not require separate application and approval.

Please note this provision does not include any initial training courses due to the required “hands on training” .

Paperless Licensing

The Department of Business and Professional Regulation is excited to announce an advancement in how we license asbestos consultants and asbestos contractors in the State of Florida.

The Department has implemented an innovative way to expedite the licensing process for asbestos consultants and asbestos contractors. The Department will no longer be mailing licenses upon issuance, as licensees can now print their licenses by logging into their secure online account with the Department. This will allow new licensees to enter the work force at least 7 to 10 business days early, whereas, in the past, they would have to wait for the license to arrive in the mail. In addition to new licenses, this process will allow licensees to renew online and print the license at their convenience.

Renewal fees for asbestos consultants and contractors will be permanently reduced by 50 percent prior to the November 30, 2014 renewal. Asbestos licensees’ initial licensure fees will also be reduced by 50 percent which will save more than $207,000 in fees within the next three year period.

Continuing Education Requirements reduced for Activation of an Inactive License

HB 517 was approved by Governor Rick Scott on April 6, 2012 and reduces the continuing education required to activate an inactive license. You now only have to complete one renewal cycle of continuing education instead of completing continuing education for all the renewal cycles your license was in an inactive status. Applicants will need to provide proof of completing the continuing education requirements in effect at the last renewal date immediately prior to their application. Those requirements are included in Chapter 61-31.504, F.A.C.:
A license issued under this chapter must be renewed every 2 years. Before an asbestos contractor’s license may be renewed, the licensee must complete a 1-day course of continuing education during each of the preceding 2 years. Before an asbestos consultant’s license may be renewed, the licensee must complete a 2-day course of continuing education during each of the preceding 2 years.
